Porn Literacy | From the Rothman Violence Prevention Research Lab
My next featured class is a 9-part workshop on media literacy with an emphasis on sexualized imagery.
Learning how to critically examine and make informed choices around sexualized media is a necessary 21st-century life skill.
-
Young people are increasingly turning to pornography and media to fill the sex ed gap. However, research has determined a link between pornography consumption and sexual violence. In this class, we will learn to critically dissect and deconstruct the messages and stereotypes in sexualized media.
-
Created by Dr. Emily Rothman and begun in Boston, this curriculum is an alternative to what is offered in most public school settings.
Although we will not be viewing sexually-explicit media in class, due to the sensitive nature of class content this class is recommended for ages 16+ up, with parent permission. -
